WHAT IS STEM
Equipping Students With New Ways of Thinking
At EDWorks, we understand that simply loading a curriculum with math and science courses won’t give students the edge they’ll need in the 21st-century workplace. Our STEM schools not only ground students in relevant subject matter, they immerse them in inquiry-based language and methodology and equip them with new ways of thinking and working.
For EDWorks STEMLab schools, STEM means:
- Open enrollment to all students, regardless of past academic performance, with a deep interest in pursuing the study of the STEM disciplines
- Personalized learning experiences for students, personal growth plans and differentiated instruction for students
- A rigorous curriculum that prepares all students for success in college - can be demonstrated through a combined STEM/Early College design
- Offsite experiences in science, technology, engineering and math including: taking courses at a higher education institution, research in a lab, internships with a STEM based company, independent study of a particular STEM field
Graduates of our STEMLab schools will:
- Critically examine and use data to make decisions concerning STEM questions
- Integrate technology seamlessly into exploration of these questions
- Make connections among foundational concepts in STEM, language arts and the social sciences
- Explore, examine, test and implement new ideas to today’s pressing STEM questions
- Be qualified to pursue a STEM job or college major with confidence
