STEMLAB
After its second year of operation, Delta High School, an EDWorks partner, was named one of Washington State's most innovative schools. Its cross-curricular planning ensures all teachers, not just math and science, were STEM teachers.

Cutting edge STEMLab high schools ready students for the 21st Century workplace through hands-on, inquiry-based learning. STEMLab grounds students in relevant subject matter tied to place by building strong partnerships with the local business and education communities, which provide additional resources and on-the-ground learning opportunities.
The goal of STEMLab is to expand both the number of science-literate citizens and the number of young people pursuing higher education and careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. While many magnet schools across the nation target the brightest and best, EDWorks STEMLab schools are designed for all students. The hope is that by choosing popular themes in high-growth career pathways, EDWorks STEMLab schools will attract a wide range of students with a curiosity about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
In addition to the academic programs, partnerships with business and higher education are critical to the success of EDWorks STEMLab schools. Both business and higher education are intimately involved in the design and delivery of the curriculum and real world experiences.

In STEMLab schools, students use the very skills they’ll need on the job as they explore and master various areas of knowledge. They will practice creative thinking, collaboration and problem solving as they apply what they’ve learned to real-life situations. They will work side-by-side with business and education professionals, both at school and at off-campus work sites.

The Health Sciences Academy graduate will be able to explore, examine, test and implement new ideas to today’s questions in the health sciences. They will be able to critically examine and use data to make decisions concerning health-related issues. This model helps graduates communicate key ideas about the health sciences to both specialists and non-specialists in the field and be qualified to pursue a STEM job or college major with confidence.
