President Harold Brown managed the Foundation’s $100 million investment in the Ohio High School Transformation Initiative (OHSTI), and the Foundation’s Early College High School (ECHS) initiative working hand-in-hand with leaders, building strong partnerships at the school, community, district and state levels to ensure all students reached their full potential and were prepared for success.
Deborah Howard leads EDWorks’ research and development work, concentrating on product design and innovation, evaluation and quality control. She blends her unique knowledge and experience in the field of education, non-profit and corporate sectors to help transform public education.
Daniel Hoffman, PhD, former Assistant Superintendent in Reynoldsburg City Schools, former Executive Director of the Ohio Center for School Reform, and a founding member of The Metro High School, has joined EDWorks on a consulting basis as National Director, STEMLab.
Esther Hopkins is a career educator with over 35 year experience. She has a vast array of experience at all levels of education including classroom teacher, department chairperson, Pathwise trainer, district science resource teacher, district science supervisor, building level graduate program teacher and coordinator, state science consultant, state assessment item reviewer and state teacher assessment committee facilitator. Esther was part of the State of Ohio’s science consultants that developed the current revision of the State’s science standards and model curriculum.
Tim Ilg, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership at the University of Dayton and a Technical Assistance Coach with EDWorks. He currently teaches leadership courses in adult supervision, community relations and diversity in schools. Ilg was a Fulbright Scholar in Europe, lecturing on numerous topics. Before his appointment to the University in 1998, he was the Superintendent of Schools in Oakwood City Schools. Prior to his position in Oakwood, he was employed by the Columbus Public Schools.
Andrea Mulkey offers more than a decade of program management expertise in the nonprofit and public sectors. At EDWorks, Andrea assisted the State University of New York with the redesign and implementation of 23 Smart Scholars Early College High Schools with a grant from the New York State Education Department.
Larry Mumford brings 47 years of classroom experience to the teaching-learning process. He has served as elementary teacher, building manager, middle school teacher, intervention specialist, high school classroom literacy coach and technical assistance coach. Larry’s coaching has been in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Education, the Center for Essential School Reform, the Ohio High School Transformation Initiative and, now, EDWorks. Larry was nominated for Ohio Teacher of the Year on two different occasions and featured in Ohio Schools Publications.
Brenda Neel’s career has provided her a wealth of “change” experiences from the classroom to the board room. At the beginning of her career, she taught English in grades 8-12 in Sandy Valley Local, where she started their first Advanced Placement (AP) English classes. From 1985-1992, she taught AP English and Journalism at Canton McKinley High School, earning national awards for her journalism partnership with the Canton Repository. She then served as gifted coordinator for Canton City.
Amy Ochander consults in both EDWorks New Start and STEMLab projects. She comes to EDWorks with several years of experience as a leader in public education and experience in the development of STEM public/private partnerships.
